What school supplies does a kid need for kindergarten?

Question by Melissa: What school supplies does a kid need for kindergarten?
My daughter starts kindergarten in the fall and I am unsure as to what supplies she will need, if any. When we signed her up for kindergarten they did not give us a list of supplies she would need, and it completely slipped my mind to ask.

When I was in kindergarten, I don’t remember taking any supplies, but times have probably changed since then.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Don’t purchase anything yet. Your childs teacher will either mail you or send home on the first day a list of supplies your child will need for the year!

Good luck!

All schools are different, but most have a list of school supplies for each grade and sometimes for each teacher.

Contact her school and ask them for a school supply list!

umm the 8 pack of big fat crayons and a box of tissues and cleaning wipes.

I don’t think she’ll need any. From what I recall from my kindergarten days, all of the crayons and big fat pencils were provided by the school. However, it may be a good idea to get her a pencil box with some crayons, pencils, and erasers. Some little kids need stuff like that to get them excited about going to school. Plus its something they can carry in their backpacks with their lunch — which makes every young kid feel special.

If you go to walmart or a Office supply store near the start of school like a couple days. they may have a list of suggested items

There are certain materials that I always keep at home for my child whether they need them at school or not. They should have pencils, crayons and glue. Also scissors, writing paper or tablet for printing practice and construction paper. This would be a good start. if the teacher wants them to have something more, you will get a list.

the teacher should give your child a list on the first day…. i guess just get paper, pencils, crayons..(the basic stuff) for now

Call the office for a list, they may say the teacher will hand out that list on the first day of school.
If its a whole day then they might need a mat to take naps but usually the school will supply most of their things like paper, crayons and pencils.
They will most likely give you a list of ‘healthy’ snacks.
Kids coming in with snacks considered ‘unhealthy’, like chips or soda, will find they will be given a juice box or carrot sticks. You can usually get oatmeal cookies by the food police.
I think its crock but its the indoctrination of our kids to choices.. which are no choice at all if you can only have what ‘they’ consider healthy and right.
